The England Travel Links Page Intriguing and Helpful England Sites
England is too varied and beautiful to have just one website about it! And while Essentially England hopes to bring England's history and cuisine to life for you, there are other England travel and history websites which you might like to check out while planning your trip to our wonderful country. This list is by no means comprehensive, but they are all sites I read when researching England, English history and England travel. And I'll add more sites as I find and like them. Have a wonderful trip!
All England
English Heritage If you love history, don't miss this site. English Heritage cares for over 400 historical properties in England, including some extremely famous ones like Stonehenge and Old Wardour Castle. Their extensive research and conservation work has preserved many outstanding monuments from certain ruin.
The National Trust More historical buildings, but also wonderful gardens, parks and some amazing stately homes. And should you feel you're on a film set, then maybe you really are ... "Did you see Mr Darcy anywhere, Miss?"
The Landmark Trust This charity rescues historic buildings and turns them into the most wonderful holiday cottages! If you want to add an extra dimension to your England travel plans, check out their site. You could stay on your very own island, capture a castle, experience the atmosphere in an old monastery or the heights of Georgian splendour in a pineapple. (And no, that's not a typing error!)
Britain Express Even amongst sites that clearly show passion for their subject, this one stands out. Begun in 1996 as an experiment by David Ross and his family, it has grown into one amazing pool of UK travel information. I've bookmarked this site and - if you like exploring Britain - then so should you!
London
London Zoo When was the last time you've been to the Zoo? Check out this site to find out what London Zoo has to offer. It makes an excellent day out, with children or without and you can even adopt an animal while you're there. (Don't worry, you won't have to take it home with you!)
The London Travel Guide A very comprehensive site for travel info. If you want the low-down on where to stay and eat in London, this is the site you should check out.
Best London Attractions This site is a quick, one-stop shop for London's many attractions and museums. If you want ideas for places to visit while in London, check out this site. It even has a very handy section on shopping!
Northern England
Visit North East England One of my all-time favourite sites. It has reams of information to plan your holiday and the photos are ace. I sometimes browse the site just to cheer myself up!
Dracula in Whitby I just love this site! Quirky and thoroughly informative all at once, it's a MUST for Dracula lovers and folks wanting to visit Whitby alike.
Visit Lancashire One of the things I really like is the way people from England's north are invariably so very proud of their area, their heritage and their history. Lancashire is no exception and that pride and love for the county really comes across when you read this site. A valuable resource for all things Lancashire and Blackpool!
Heart of England
Lincolnshire Holiday Guide I like to think that this site's owner knows about fishing. Not quite sure why ... There's certainly good fishing to be had in Lincolnshire, but there's plenty else going on too, and this site has it covered.
Southern England
The Isle of Wight Holidays Guide Many English have fond memories of holidays in the Isle of Wight. If you don't then it's time you packed your bags and checked it out. All the info you need is here....
The Sussex South Downs Guide Sussex is often portrayed as a quintessentially English county, and if you want to take that further than the heart of Sussex has to lie in the beautiful South Downs. If you've never explored this part of England you should really make the effort. This site will give you the low-down before you go, so you don't miss anything.
The Dorset Travel Guide There's no doubt that Dorset has one of England's most famous coastlines. But the countryside inland from that coast is equally appealing and this site covers both in detail.
The East Devon Guide Move up the coast from Dorset and you'll reach East Devon. More of that magnificent coast, but also cider, cream teas and picture perfect little villages.
Legendary Dartmoor This is a lovely site, both in looks and content. You can feel the passion for all things Dartmoor ... history, archaeology, myths and legends all in one place. Check it out before your next trip and I'm sure you'll find things that will surprise you.
England Travel
Holiday Cottage Reviews Planning to rent a cottage for your holidays in England? Check out this site first. MyCottageHoliday.co.uk is the first independent site solely dedicated to UK self-catering and holiday cottage reviews. It is the only website where users can find impartial UK cottage reviews - so make sure you add your own review when you return from your England travel.
The Times Online Travel The Times is one of the world's most famous newspapers. But did you realise that you can also read it online? I particularly like the England travel section (Britain, really, but still!), which has lots of wonderful ideas for days out and reviews that can make you laugh and cry in equal measure. A great way to spend a lunch hour....
Richardson's Holiday Villages England is a great place for holidays - but you already knew that, right? If you like your holidays with great comfort and lots of extras, you should take a look at Richardson's holiday villages, who offer a range of holiday locations for families with kids and senior citizens.
