English Food: the nation's favourites

by samah

Deciding which are England's favourite foods is very difficult, as England has such a diverse culture!
There are the traditional recipes:

We also love our puddings and cakes and there are too many tasty recipes to list them all here. And if you look around English towns during the day, you'll find all manner of tasty sandwiches - something else we love to eat.

But England is also home to people from many different cultures and most of them have brought some of their favourite foods with them. Over time, these have become favourites of the English, too.

There are excellent curry houses up and down the country, serving the best of Indian foods. There are even curries - like Chicken Tikka Masala - that are famous throughout England, but don't really exist in India at all.

Italian food is very popular - and I don't just mean pizza. And if you like it spicy, then Thai foods may be a good option.

In Birmingham and parts of London, you can find many Caribbean restaurants. Hot, sweet, fragrant and comforting all at once - what I've tried of it is true soul food!

But English food, traditional English food, is still my favourite. It changes with the seasons and the region. It's by turns fresh and colourful, or soothing and comforting. It just belongs here.
