Holiday cottages in Derbyshire are not just for families. So here's something for those of us, who like to go away as a twosome.

Orchard Cottage is a tiny romantic cottage for two, tucked away in a picturesque country location. Once an 18th century stables, it has been meticulously converted and furnished in a very traditional style. The open-plan sitting room has a wood-burning stove and the galleried, beamed bedroom will make you feel on top of the world. A farmhouse-style kitchen - with Rayburn - and stone-floored dining room complete your retreat.

Set within the grounds of Horselygate Hall, it makes a cosy retreat for two.

If you chose to go out, the Peak District's glorious landscape is right on your doorstep. it's walking country, but there's golf and riding close by if you fancy a change. Chatsworth Hall and Haddon Hall are close for a day out exploring stately homes. And if your mind yearns for shops and restaurants, then Chesterfield and Bakewell are only a short drive away.


Facilities

Holiday cottages in Derbyshire come usually very well equipped. Bed linen, duvets and towels are included in the rental, as are electricity and central heating. Logs for the wood-burner can be obtained locally or from the owners.

The cottage has off-road parking space and the owners offer the use of their well-tended 2.5 acre garden, grounds and orchard. A private terrace with furniture and BBQ is available to visitors, to allow you to enjoy those long balmy summer evenings, and pets are welcome.

Inside, the property provides TV, radio/cassette/CD and a microwave. Visitors are also able use the owner's laundry room, which has a washing machine.

Orchard Cottage is a non-smoking property. Visitors should also note that there is a pond in the grounds.

History on your Doorstep

Renting one of the many holiday cottages in Derbyshire means that you have history right on your doorstep. Stay at Orchard Cottage, and you'll have trouble deciding what to go and see first.

Chatsworth House

Home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, Chatsworth House is one of England's marvels. The park is a beautiful piece of landscape architecture, ideal for walking (and photographing trees!). The house itself, when open, will leave you speechless. And if you're lucky, you may get to see the fountain, which was built for a visit of a Russion Czar, in working order.

Kedleston Hall, Derby

This is a must-see attraction for all lovers of landscape parks and wonderful walks! But Kedleston Hall has more than just a great park and fine walks. It also sports a museum, landscaped gardens and a costumed housekeeper.

Sudbury Hall and Museum of Childhood

This lovely house from the late 1600s makes a great day out for children of all ages. The Museum of Childhood is provides some wonderful interactive fun and maybe also a nostalgic look back for some of us. And as a special treat for all Mr. Darcy fans out there, Sudbury Hall featured in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.


Days Out and Things to Do

Most holiday cottages in Derbyshire boast superb views and glorious scenery on their doorstep and this is especially so at Orchard Cottage.

There's cycling and hiking almost from the door, or you could indulge your love of history by visiting Kedleston Hall, Chatsworth House or the plague village of Eyam.

And if this was not enough, it's in an ideal location for touring the Peak District National Park. Carsington reservoir with its excellent water sports facilities is only 10 minutes' drive away. And Kedleston Hall is even closer ... a mere stroll.
