Holiday Cottages Northumberland
The Cheviots
The Cheviot Hills are a paradise for walkers, cyclists and mountain bikers. Paths and small roads galore. And the peace and tranquillity have to be experienced to be believed.
In many places you can walk or ride straight from the door of your Northumberland holiday cottage. You can also explore the small, beautiful towns and villages that dot the area betweent the coast and the hills: Alnwick, Rothbury, Otterburn, Alnwinton.
Below is a small selection of holiday cottages Northumberland has to offer. And as I find others I add them here.
| Rothbury | Otterburn | Hepple |

| Coquet View | Rothbury | Sleeps 4 |
We discovered the little town of Rothbury the very first time we visited Northumberland and liked it so much that we rented a cottage there during our most recent trip.
If you love fishing, hiking, golf or tandem riding ... this is the place for you. Yes, it's hilly, but we did some amazing tandem rides in the area. You can check them out on the Coquetdale page of this site.
The peace and tranquillity to be had in this ancient landscape is impossible to put into words. Just make sure you take a ride / hike / drive to Holystone's Ladywell, where Roman legionaries stopped to rest and St Paulinus baptised 300 heathens into the Christian faith.
Or drive to Alnwinton and take a walk up Clennell Street, my favourite place in all of England!
There's plenty of accommodation to be had in Rothbury and Coquet View, a former country house, will really impress everyone who stays here.
The views of Cragside, Blaeberry HIll and Simonside are stunning and inside, the house is equally impressive. Each of the cottages has its own patio or balcony with stunning views over the Coquet Valley.
Rothbury is an ideal base for exploring this historic area - Alnwick, Warkworth and the beautiful sandy beaches of Northumberland's coast are only a short drive away.
Closer to home, The National Trust property at Cragside - the world's first electricity powered country house - with its majestic grounds is two miles away and Brinkworth Priory is also close by.

| Greenchester's Cottage | Otterburn | Sleeps 6 |
Otterburn in the Rede Valley has to be one of the most tranquil and timeless places on the planet! And this holiday cottage captures the sense of timelessness to perfection.
Leave your watch and phone behind. Explore the extensive gardens and woodlands surrounding the house. Then relax in the traditional decor before an open fire.

Or enjoy fresh local food in the open large farmhouse kitchen.
Otterburn with its mill, pubs and cafe is only 1 mile away. If your mind turns to a little exploration, then Kielder Water, Hadrian's Wall and the Scottish Borders are all within 30 mins drive, while Alnwick with its famous castle and garden and Northumberland's long sandy beaches are about one hour away.
But when you're in Otterburn, you really don't need to leave. You can walk from the door and the countryside is glorious. You can explore by bike. There's fishing nearby. Or you can just meander through the lanes and soak up the peace ... it's priceless!

| The Barn | Hepple | Sleeps 6 |
Hepple sits very prettily on the River Coquet, half-way between Rothbury and Holystone. It's one of the most beautiful parts of Northumberland and great for cycling, fishing and hiking.
The Barn is a must-do for anyone with a bent for history. There can't be many England holiday cottages that boast a ruined, 14th century Pele Tower in their grounds.
The Barn enjoys views over the Coquet Valley and the Tosson Hills and there's good hiking to be had right from the door. The Pennine Way is easily accessible, and then there's Clennell Street, of course ...
Once home, you can explore the beautiful cottage garden or chill out and do nothing more strenuous than enjoy the views and muse over the once so violent history of the area...
Indoors, the barn is equally attractive... I just love the arches and the beamed ceiling in the lounge. Relax by the fire when it's chilly and don't worry about anything.
