Holiday Cottages Northumberland
Hadrian's Wall Country

Northumberland's Roman heritage is outstanding - and not just for history enthusiasts. Hadrian's Wall is a world heritage site - and too right!

Follow in the footsteps of the Roman invaders, or cycle along the length of the wall. Explore Roman forts, bath houses and camps or even try living like a Roman for a change. Then there's Hexham to explore and all the little towns and villages along the wall...

Below is a small selection of holiday cottages Northumberland has to offer. And as I find others I add them here.

Hexham Corbridge Langley on Tyne

Finechambers Chapel Juniper nr Hexham Sleeps 4-6

A delightful restoration of a former chapel, Finechambers makes a wonderful base for exploring Hadrian's wall country.

Spacious and comfortable, Finechambers is situated in the charming hamlet of Juniper and enjoys uninterrupted rural views from its elevated and secluded position.

Still, it's only 3 miles from the historic market town of Hexham with its abbey, Saxon monuments, lively markets and famous racecourse.

This is undeniably walking country and Hadrian's Wall is within easy reach if you like your walks seasoned with a little history. Walking in the wild unspoilt countryside is a delight and the Northumbrian coast with its endless unspoilt beaches is also easily accessible.

The Water Castle Newton, nr. Corbridge Sleeps 4

Holiday cottages in Northumberland: the WaterCastle in CorbridgeThis is one of the more unusual England holiday cottages and (maybe for that reason) very high on my wishlist. It will make a wonderful base to explore Hadrian's Wall country.

A former water tower set in a truly rural location with stunning views, its restauration (and transformation into a modern castle) is inspired.

I simply love the crenellated look, the lonely setting and the wonderful windows. Inside, it's modern and open and very, very peaceful.

The Watercastle is situated in Newton, just a short way from the picturesque town of Corbridge and its many peaceful walks along the River Tyne.

Holiday cottages in Northumberland: the WaterCastle in CorbridgeHadrian's Wall - a World Heritage site - is nearby and invites exploration with lots of activities for children throughout the year.

Hexham, famous for its abbey and racecourse, is only a few minutes' drive.

There's golf and horse riding, as well as hiking and cycling, if you are feeling energetic. And as for afternoon tea or a cool beer, you'll be spoilt for choice in Corbridge.
