Pictures of England
Magical Moments and Lasting Memories

England is a country of amazing images. Its landscape can change dramatically in a half-hour drive. History, myths and legends are all around you. And as for our much maligned weather ... it can alter the character of a place right before your eyes!

Bamburgh Castle at Sunrise, Northumberland, England

Art Poster from AllPosters.com

I was in love with England before I ever set foot onto its soil, but really - I had no idea how beautiful and varied this country really is.

From its endless coastline to its busy cities, from picturesque villages to endless views ... you cannot help being amazed.

And that's before I even consider romantic ruined castles, grand houses and the most wonderful landscape gardens you can imagine.

Join me on a journey of discovery through several million years of landscape and coast and a few thousand years of human history.

Enjoy these pictures of England!

Tower Bridge at Night, London, UKLONDON
London has a history that goes back more than 2000 years. It's like an ancient heart that beats on serenely through the frantic activity of modern times. And if you look closely at pictures of London, you'll find it shines through.

Bamburgh Castle in Silhouette at Sunrise, with Rock Pools on Empty Beach, Northumberland, England
NORTHUMBERLAND
Northumberland is a county with a long and bloody history and the largest number of castles and fortified houses in all of England. Its long unspoilt beaches and lonely hills have inspired painters and photographers for years.

Dunwich Beach, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom
NORFOLK
The county of endless beaches and endless skies, where the boundaries between land and sea are blurred. Wander the peaceful shores or take to a boat on the Norfolk Broads.

Beach Huts, Southwold, Suffolk, England, United Kingdom

SUFFOLK
A peaceful place of beach huts, crooked houses and tranquil churches, Suffolk has inspired painters like Constable and Turner. Dig a little deeper, though, and you'll find the Saxon heart that beats beneath the tranquil façade.

Stonehenge, Winter Solstice
WILTSHIRE
Stonehenge is Wiltshire's most famous monument, but by no means its only one. This playground of prehistoric man also inspired Saxons, Normans, landscape gardeners and Victorian engineers like Brunel.

Village of Snowshill, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, England
GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Few counties do picturesque as well as Gloucestershire. Rolling hills, sheep and honey-coloured stone houses ... alongside Roman villas, castles and the Regency splendours of Cheltenham. This is a county with a long and varied history.

Boats on Kingsbridge Estuary at East Portlemouth, Evening, Salcombe, Devon, EnglandDEVON
Famous for its mild climate, hidden coves and sandy beaches, Devon is a holiday paradise. But climb up onto the moors, you'll find prehistoric sites, ruined castles, tiny villages and miles and miles of glorious countryside!

Botallack Tin Mine on the Coast, Cornwall, England, UKCORNWALL
Fishermen meet miners and myths and legends come alive in this ancient land. Linked to the Celts by more than just its language, Cornwall is the birthplace of King Arthur, a place of magic and legend and a home of saints.

Gold Hill, Shaftesbury, Dorset, England, UKDORSET
A county to get away from it all. Thomas Hardy's Dorset of tiny villages and rolling green hills is deeply peaceful. Coastal Dorset on the other hand is busy, buzzing and truly spectacular.
