Storing luggage while travelling in England

When we come to England in the spring, we will be staying in 3 or 4 places. We are trying to find a "left luggage" place in Alnwick or Durham so we will not have to travel back the way we came. Any ideas?

Answer:

At one time, all English railway stations and airports, as well as many coach stations had left luggage facilities. Many of those were removed during the 80s and 90s due to security concerns and only very few are now available. Durham railway station does not offer left luggage services, and neither does Alnwick coach station.

However, all is not lost and when taking an England tour there are ways to avoid lugging all ones belongings around. Many hotels, amongst them the White Swan and the Coquetvale Hotel in Alnwick, offer luggage storage services to their guests to allow them to tour unencumbered. Check the hotel website to see if the service is offered as standard. Even if it's not mentioned, it would not hurt to ask prior to booking. In my experience, most will be happy to help.

If you're planning on staying in a guest house or B&B, the same applies. While guest houses and B&Bs are usually smaller and are bound to have less available space, most proprietors are extrememly helpful and if at all possible will try to accomoodate you.
