The Auckley Show

by Neil Woodward
(Doncaster)

Inside the Main Marquee

This year's Auckley Show is held on Saturday 14th August 2010, at Riverside Park off Ravenswood Drive Auckley, Doncaster, South Yorkshire. This is the main event of the village and local area and visited by residents from surrounding villages. We maintain a ‘Free Admission / parking’ policy as part of the tradition. Our aim is to be inclusive not exclusive.

We feel we provide a facility for other community groups to raise funds for their project. Examples are Scouts, Guides, Brownies, Church, W.I. and other national charities.

The show is over three days, we encourage young and old from all cultures to become involved in the many interactive activities. Junior fishing match on the Wednesday, Auckley Show’s got Talent and junior disco on the Friday evening.

The main event on Saturday is the Horticultural and Produce show. There are children’s sports, tug of war, ferret racing, fancy dress parade, classic cars and tractors, craft stalls, car boot, live entertainment, beer festival, duck race down the river Torne and much more.

This is a traditional meeting place for all ages. Our aim is to create that special ‘feel good factor’ about our community. We end the day with a dance, entertainment and meal, this year at a cost of £20 each.
