Tipping for a meal

How much money is the typical tip after a meal?

Answer.

Many restaurants add a service charge to the bill. That tends to be 10-12.5%. You don't need to pay that if you feel that you didn't receive the level of service you expected.

It's customary to leave money on the table for the serving staff. How much, again, depends on how pleased you were with the service. Between £2-£5 per person dining might be reasonable for a higher-end restaurant.

Some pubs, cafes and smaller restaurants have tip jars on the bar. Again, leave as much as you feel comfortable.
