For 2010, Swindon New College will be offering two online business courses: a one day course and the full 10-week business building course. We will also hold an open evening for anyone interested in joining the courses.
Open EveningOur Open Evening will take place on Tuesday, 21st September 2010 at the Queen's Drive campus between 6pm and 9pm.

The Web to Success One Day CourseOur one day course is aimed at two types of students:- Business owners wanting to learn more about making the internet work harder for their business
- Absolute beginners wanting to find out how online business works
During the course we'll discuss how online business and offline business differ and why so many online businesses fail to produce result. You will learn how to choose the right niche for your online business. We'll discuss the importance of keywords and how to find the most valuable ones for your niche. You'll learn how to assess your competition, how to build traffic by marketing your site and how to build and improve relationships with your customers by giving them what they want. Finally, we will look at the different ways you can use to generate income from your online business. Students will receive a handout detailing the main points covered during the day and throughout the course there's plenty of time to ask questions. The Web to Success Online Business CourseThis course is for people who want to build an online business of their own. You may be the owner of an (offline) business or a complete beginner. The course lasts for 10 weeks (30 hours) and during that time I'll hand-hold you through the process of setting up your own business on the internet. You will start with an idea - maybe. You will leave with an online business. Please read the course details page to find out in more detail what is covered in each lesson. This course is scheduled to start on Tuesday, 28th September 2010.. Classes take place between 6pm and 9pm each week. You'll spend about half of each class working on your own business idea, putting into practise the principles we've discussed earlier in class. At the end of each lesson you will receive home work assignments to complete during the week - again, working on your own business idea. These should take about 8-10 hours of your time, but they'll ensure that your business gets off to a good start. You will receive detailed course notes and handouts to help you with your work. Part of the course is also a 1-year subscription to SBI!, the business building tool I use in class to teach you. And when you're not in class I will be available to answer questions by email. I'm not a computer wizard!Neither am I ... But if you follow the right business plan you don't need to be. As long as you choose a suite of tools that takes care of all the 'tech stuff' and ask for help when you need it, your lack of computer skills need not hold you back.
I can't write!You can talk, can't you? Just imagine you're telling a friend about your business, then write down what you say. If you're really worried tape your conversation, then copy it leaving out all the embarrassing hmms and ahems. Many people work this way and you know what? their writing sounds genuine and lively.
It sounds like a lot of work!Yes it does. And yes, it is! You're planning to build a business, remember? And that's a bit like building a house. You cannot move in until you've spent the time and effort building it. In fact, the more time and effort you can put into your business, the faster you'll see results. And if you only have a few hours a week? Then you can still build a successful business, but it will take longer to reap the rewards.
I have nothing to sell!Really? You don't have a hobby, you're not passionate about anything, you don't have an opinion? You don't need to be an inventor or own a warehouse full of goods to benefit from the internet. The world wide web is just as much about sharing information as it is about selling fridge freezers. If you have a passion ... share it! If you have an opinion ... share it! And yes of course, you can sell freezers.
