What are the English like?

I would like to know about the English, what the people of England are like...

Answer:

That's a very interesting question and probably one that every visitor to our country will have a different answer to.

In general, the English have a reputation for being reserved and courteous, even though I find that good manners are sometimes overtaken by stress - especially in the rush hour.

We love good food, beer (or more often ale), spending time with friends and sports, from football, rugby and tennis to cricket or bowling on the village green.

We love afternoon tea and strawberries with cream. We love fish and chips by the seaside and we simply have to be outdoors as soon as there's a ray of sunshine about.

When travelling around the country, you'll find people very helpful and friendly. You can chat with the butcher or baker about what foods are traditional locally, or talk to the ladies in the tourist information office about the history of the area.

Staff in Bed & Breakfasts, guest houses and hotels are especially knowledgeable about things to do locally and will be happy to help with bookings and arrangements.

Most of us love where we live and want visitors to have a really good time. So just come along and find out for yourself what the English are like...
