White Christmas in England
According to the song and many traditional Christmas cards, we're all dreaming of a white Christmas. But with England's warm climate is there ever a chance of it?
In England, it's officially a White Christmas if snow falls on the roof of the London Weather Centre on December 25th. And by that definition, we've had seven White Christmases in the 20th century. The last one was 2004.
But that doesn't mean that we're knee-deep in the white fluff. Snowfall in England tends to be very uneven. Just recently (December 2010) the north-east coast of England experienced heavy falls of snow, while there was barely any in the northwest and only very little in the south.
As a general rule, the further north you go in England the better the chances. Even better, if you visit Scotland...
A White Christmas in England is a bit of a wonderful dream. But then, sometimes dreams come true!
